Sydney White

Sydney White leaves home for her first year at Southern Atlantic University with plans to join the sorority her late mother once belonged to. What she finds is a chapter very different from the one she expected, run by the status-conscious Rachel Witchburn, who wants nothing to do with an outsider. Sydney ends up living in a run-down house with seven students the campus has written off, and together they take on the established Greek system by running for student government, an effort that also brings her close to Tyler Prince.

Joe Nussbaum directed the film, his third feature after Sleepover (2004) and American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile (2006); Chad Gomez Creasey wrote the screenplay. Amanda Bynes plays Sydney, with Sara Paxton as Rachel, Matt Long as Tyler, and Jeremy Howard, Danny Strong and Jack Carpenter among the housemates. The production, from Universal Pictures and Morgan Creek, cost about 17 million USD and returned roughly 14 million USD worldwide.

Audience scores sit in similar territory on both platforms, at 6.2/10 on IMDb from more than 50,000 votes and 6.5/10 on TMDB, while the critics' rating of 5.1/10 from 85 reviews places professional response somewhat lower. The film updates the Snow White story to a modern college campus.
