Short description
Emily Taylor is struggling to cope as her husband Martin nears the end of a four-year prison sentence for insider trading. When conventional treatment fails, she turns to a psychiatrist, Dr. Jonathan Banks, who prescribes an experimental drug. The medication seems to help at first, but its side effects have consequences that reach far beyond Emily herself, drawing in both her doctor and her husband.
Steven Soderbergh directed the film, working from a screenplay by Scott Z. Burns. It is the twenty-third of the thirty-five features Soderbergh has directed in chronological order, following Behind the Candelabra and preceding Logan Lucky. Rooney Mara plays Emily, with Jude Law as Banks, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Dr. Victoria Siebert and Channing Tatum as Martin. The production, from di Bonaventura Pictures and Endgame Entertainment, had a budget of 30 million US dollars and took about 63 million US dollars worldwide.
Critics rated it 7.4 out of 10 across 225 reviews, higher than the audience scores of 6.5 out of 10 on IMDb and 6.6 out of 10 on TMDB. The film runs 106 minutes and blends crime, drama and thriller elements.
