Short description

Vincent, a successful man in his forties, attends a dinner hosted by his sister Elizabeth and her husband Pierre. Also in attendance is Claude, a childhood friend of Vincent. While the group waits for the arrival of Vincent's young wife, Anna, the conversation focuses on the fact that Vincent is expecting his first child. The mood shifts abruptly when Vincent reveals the name he has chosen for the baby. This decision sparks an intense argument among the guests, leading to the exposure of old secrets and long-standing grudges.

This comedy-drama was co-directed by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière, marking the first of three listed collaborations between them, followed by The Best Is Yet to Come and The Count of Monte Cristo. The screenplay was also written by the directing duo. The film features a cast including Patrick Bruel, Valérie Benguigui, Charles Berling, Guillaume de Tonquédec, Judith El Zein, and Françoise Fabian.

The production is a joint effort from Belgium and France. Audience reception has been positive, with a rating of 7.3/10 on IMDb from 20,000 votes and an identical 7.3/10 on TMDB based on 1,826 votes. In contrast, film critics gave the movie a lower rating of 5.1/10 across 14 reviews.

What's left behind the scenes

  • During the end credits, actors and members of the film crew are shown in old photographs from their personal collections.
  • When discussing names that should not be used, Pierre mentions Francis Holm. This was the name of a serial killer who committed dozens of crimes in France, both alone and with accomplices.
  • The film repeatedly states that Claude plays first trombone in the philharmonic orchestra. In two scenes where Claude is shown in the orchestra, he is seated in the second trombone position.
  • This was one of the last roles of singer, theater director, and actress Valérie Benguigui (1965-2013). She received a César Award for Best Supporting Actress for it.
