America's Sweethearts

America's Sweethearts is a romantic comedy about a Hollywood power couple whose marriage has fallen apart just as they need to promote their latest film together. Gwen Harrison and Eddie Thomas have been the screen's favourite pair, but their separation throws the studio's plans into chaos. A veteran publicist, Lee Phillips, is brought in to stage a reconciliation before the press, while Gwen's sister and assistant, Kiki, is drawn into the effort. The director's refusal to hand over the only print of the film complicates matters further, as does Kiki's growing feelings for Eddie.

Joe Roth directed, following Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise (1987) and preceding Christmas with the Kranks (2004) and Freedomland (2006) among the films he has directed. Billy Crystal and Peter Tolan wrote the screenplay, and Crystal produced alongside Susan Arnold and Donna Roth. The cast is led by Julia Roberts as Kiki, Crystal as Lee, John Cusack as Eddie, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Gwen, Hank Azaria as Hector and Stanley Tucci as Dave Kingman, with 45 credited cast members and 194 credited crew.

Made for 64 million dollars, the film took 138 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from 63,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.7 out of 10 from 914 votes, both slightly above the critics' rating of 5.3 out of 10 from 147 reviews.
