Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans follows Terence McDonagh, a New Orleans police sergeant who is honored and promoted to lieutenant after rescuing a prisoner from a flooded jail during Hurricane Katrina. The rescue leaves him with a back injury, and he comes to rely on prescription painkillers, with cocaine and gambling filling out his days. Assigned to investigate the killing of a family of African immigrants, he pursues a local drug figure while his girlfriend, a sex worker, and a witness he tries to protect pull him further into danger.

The film is Herzog's fourteenth feature, following Rescue Dawn and preceding Cave of Forgotten Dreams. William M. Finkelstein wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Nicolas Cage as McDonagh, Eva Mendes as Frankie Donnenfield, Val Kilmer as Stevie Pruit, Xzibit as Big Fate, Fairuza Balk as Heidi and Shawn Hatosy as Armand Benoit. It is set in a post-Katrina New Orleans, borrowing its title from Abel Ferrara's 1992 film about a corrupt officer.
