The Love Guru
Short description
The Love Guru centers on Pitka, an American who was abandoned as a baby at an Indian ashram and raised there by gurus. He returns to the United States hoping to make his name as a self-help and relationship expert, though he remains overshadowed by a rival who has become the world's most famous guru. His first serious assignment comes from Jane Bullard, the owner of a Toronto hockey team. Star player Darren Roanoke has lost his form since his wife left him, and she has taken up with Jacques Grandé, a rival player known for his flamboyant persona. Jane hires Pitka to repair the marriage so Darren can lead the team to the Stanley Cup.
Mike Myers stars as Pitka, a role he also co-wrote with Graham Gordy and produced with Michael De Luca. Jessica Alba plays Jane Bullard, with Justin Timberlake as Grandé, Romany Malco as Roanoke, Meagan Good as Prudence and John Oliver as Dick Pants. Marco Schnabel directed the film, which runs 87 minutes.
Released in June 2008, the production carried a budget of 62 million dollars and returned about 41 million dollars worldwide. It drew a 3.8 rating from roughly 57,000 votes on IMDb and a 4.1 from around 796 on TMDB. Critics, rating it 3.6 from 174 reviews, were harsher still, so the film found little favor with either reviewers or audiences.

- In hockey, the last minute of each period is counted down not in whole seconds, but in tenths of a second.
- Rob Blake plays defense, but at the end of the game he participates in the face-off, a role usually performed by forwards.
- During one of the Stanley Cup games, Roanoke hits the puck while it is in the air at head level and scores. In such a situation, the referee should have called a high-sticking penalty.
- During the first game between the teams from Toronto and Los Angeles, Roanoke and Grande start fighting. The referee should have ejected Roanoke for the remainder of the game.
