Short description
Set on the Eastern Front in 1943, this war drama follows a German Tiger tank crew assigned to a perilous mission far behind enemy lines. The soldiers must traverse a lethal no-man's land to rescue a missing officer from a secret bunker. As they battle the opposing army, the crew struggles with their own internal fears and psychological instability, exacerbated by the use of Wehrmacht methamphetamine.
The film was directed by Dennis Gansel, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Colin Teevan. It is the eighth feature directed by Gansel, following his previous work such as The Wave and Mechanic: Resurrection. The cast features Laurence Rupp, David Schütter, Sebastian Urzendowsky, Leonard Kunz, Yoran Leicher, and André Hennicke. Produced by Pantaleon Films, the movie has a runtime of 117 minutes.
Audience reception has been generally positive. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6.5/10 based on 14,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a higher score of 7.1/10 from 491 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- At the beginning of the film, Soviet T-34-85 tanks appear, which entered serial production in 1944, after the events depicted in the film.
- The 'Tiger' crew engages in combat with a SU-100, but the first combat use of this self-propelled gun took place in January 1945, while the film's action occurs in late 1943.
- The tank featured in the film is a replica built on a T-55 tank chassis. Before filming began, it was additionally fitted with wheels. Currently, the replica can be seen in a private military museum in the Czech town of Rokycany.
