Because I Said So

Because I Said So is a 2007 American romantic comedy about Daphne Wilder, a mother who has raised three daughters on her own and cannot resist managing their lives. With her two older daughters now married, she turns her attention to her youngest, Milly, a warm but unlucky-in-love pastry chef. Convinced Milly keeps choosing the wrong men, Daphne secretly places a personal ad to find a suitable suitor without telling her daughter. Her plan produces two very different candidates, and Milly ends up seeing both while her mother pushes for the one she prefers. Daphne's sisters, the steady psychologist Maggie and the confident Mae, try to rein in their mother's meddling as the situation grows more complicated.

Michael Lehmann directed the film, the eighth in his feature career, following 40 Days and 40 Nights five years earlier and arriving between the comedies Airheads and The Truth About Cats & Dogs in his filmography. The screenplay was written by Karen Leigh Hopkins and Jessie Nelson, who also produced with Paul Brooks. Diane Keaton leads as Daphne, with Mandy Moore as Milly, Gabriel Macht and Tom Everett Scott as her two suitors, and Lauren Graham and Piper Perabo as her sisters.

Released on 2 February 2007 by Universal Pictures with Gold Circle Films and Mandate International, the film runs 102 minutes and took in about 69 million dollars worldwide, a solid return for a mid-budget studio comedy. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.9 out of 10 from 685 votes, indicating a mixed audience response.
