Road North

Timo, a professional pianist struggling with his personal life, is surprised by the arrival of Leo, the father who abandoned him as a young child. After more than thirty years of absence, Leo returns to reconcile with his son and reveal details about his past. The two men embark on a road trip toward the north of Finland, where their differing personalities clash as they attempt to build a new relationship and process their shared failures.

This Finnish comedy-drama was directed and produced by Mika Kaurismäki, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Sami Keski-Vähälä. It is the first film in a listed sequence of five directorial works by Kaurismäki. The movie stars Vesa-Matti Loiri as Leo Porola and Samuli Edelmann as Timo Porola, supported by a credited cast of 33 actors, including Leena Uotila, Eija Vilpas, Pertti Sveholm, and Irina Pulkka.
