The Hungarian Dressmaker

Set during the 1940s in the First Slovak State, this drama follows Marika, a Hungarian widow and seamstress living near the border. Amidst rising nationalism and hostility toward minorities, Marika hides a Jewish boy named Šimon in her home. Her efforts to remain unnoticed are complicated when she attracts the attention of a German Nazi officer and a captain of the Slovak Guard. The story explores the conflict between humanism and survival during the Second World War.

The film was directed by Iveta Grófová, who also co-wrote the screenplay based on a novella by Peter Krištúfek. The production was a collaboration between Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, involving companies such as Česká televize and RTVS.
