Mr. Woodcock

John Farley has built a career as a self-help author, but his own past is the subject he never escaped. As a student in the town of Forest Meadows, he endured the physical education classes of Jasper Woodcock, an instructor who turned humiliation into a teaching method. Years later, John returns home and learns that his mother, Beverly, has fallen for Woodcock and intends to marry him. Unable to accept the match, John extends his stay and sets out to break the couple apart, though his efforts tend to damage his own standing more than Woodcock's.

Craig Gillespie directed the film, the second entry in his directing career after Lars and the Real Girl, both released in 2007. Billy Bob Thornton plays Woodcock, Seann William Scott plays John, and Susan Sarandon plays Beverly, with Amy Poehler, Ethan Suplee and Melissa Sagemiller in supporting roles. Michael Carnes, Josh Gilbert and Joshua Sternin wrote the screenplay, and David Dobkin and Bob Cooper produced.
