Emma Lloyd hosts a radio show where she gives relationship advice, and her career is thriving: a book deal is in place and she is engaged to Richard, a publisher who seems to suit her perfectly. During the preparations for the wedding, she learns that she is already married, to a firefighter named Patrick whom she has never met. He is not inclined to make an annulment easy, and the two become better acquainted as her wedding day approaches.
Griffin Dunne directed the film, which came after Fierce People in his filmography and before Movie 43. The screenplay is by Mimi Hare, Clare Naylor and Bonnie Sikowitz, and Uma Thurman, one of the producers alongside Jennifer Todd and Suzanne Todd, stars as Emma. Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays Patrick and Colin Firth plays Richard, with Sam Shepard, Isabella Rossellini and Keir Dullea among the supporting cast. Released in 2008, the romantic comedy runs 90 minutes and took in about 23 million dollars worldwide.
Its ratings are modest across the board, at 5.6 out of 10 on IMDb from 27,000 votes and the same score on TMDB from 615 votes, while a critics' rating of 3.2 out of 10 from 19 reviews puts professional response below the audience scores.
