I Saw a King

Set in 1936 following the Italian occupation of Ethiopia, the story takes place in a quiet provincial town. Abraham Imirrù, an Ethiopian prince and guerrilla fighter, is held captive in an aviary within the garden of the local Podestà. While the townspeople view the prisoner with suspicion or curiosity, young Emilio sees him differently. As a member of the Balilla who reads the adventures of Salgari, the boy believes the prisoner is actually the fictional character Sandokan, transforming the captive into a personal hero.

The historical comedy was directed by Giorgia Farina, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Franco Bernini and Walter Lupo. The film is a joint production between Italy and France, involving companies such as RAI Cinema and Medusa Film. The cast features Edoardo Pesce as Podestà Marcello, Sara Serraiocco as Regina, and Gabriel Gougsa in the role of Abraham Imirrù. Other appearing actors include Marco Fiore, Lino Musella, and Blu Yoshimi. The movie has a runtime of 95 minutes.
