Margot at the Wedding

Margot Zeller is a short story writer visiting the seaside home where she and her sister Pauline grew up. Pauline is about to marry Malcolm, an unemployed artist, and Margot arrives with her young son Claude shortly before the wedding. Margot disapproves of the match and makes her doubts known, which stirs up tension between the sisters and brings buried family conflicts to the surface. As the ceremony approaches, the household descends into disorder.

Noah Baumbach directed and wrote the film, his fourth feature, following The Squid and the Whale and preceding Greenberg. Nicole Kidman plays Margot, Jennifer Jason Leigh plays Pauline, and Jack Black plays Malcolm; John Turturro, Ciarán Hinds and Zane Pais appear in supporting roles among a credited cast of twenty-five. Scott Rudin produced the film.

Released in November 2007, the film runs 91 minutes. Made for about 10 million dollars, it returned roughly 3 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 23,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.8 out of 10 from 334 votes, while critics gave it 6.1 out of 10 across 164 reviews, a slightly warmer reception than the audience scores suggest.
