Closed Circuit is a British-American crime thriller set in London, where a bombing at a busy market kills more than a hundred people. In the manhunt that follows, one suspect, Farroukh Erdogan, is arrested and charged. His prosecution brings two former lovers back together on the defense team: Martin Rose and Claudia Simmons-Howe. Their reunion is complicated by the case itself, as the government wants to rely on classified evidence that only Claudia is cleared to see. As the trial proceeds under intense scrutiny, the two lawyers find their professional obligations and their shared past pulling them in different directions, and their involvement in the case puts them at personal risk.
John Crowley directed the film, which sits between Boy A (2008) and Brooklyn (2015) in his filmography. Steven Knight wrote the screenplay, and Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Chris Clark produced. Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall play Martin and Claudia, with Ciarán Hinds, Jim Broadbent, Kenneth Cranham and Isaac Hempstead-Wright among the credited cast of thirty. Made for a modest budget, the film earned considerably less than it cost at the worldwide box office.
Audience response has been mixed: it holds a rating of 6.2 out of 10 on IMDb from around 24,000 votes, and 5.9 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 500 votes. A film critics' rating of 5.4 out of 10 from 131 reviews is lower than both audience scores.
