Runner Runner

Richie Furst is a Princeton student who funds his tuition through online poker. When he loses everything and becomes convinced the site cheated him, he travels to Costa Rica to confront Ivan Block, the man behind the offshore gambling operation. Rather than punishing him, Block takes Richie under his wing and draws him into the business, while an FBI agent tries to use Richie to get to Block.

Runner Runner was directed by Brad Furman, the second of the five films he has made, following The Lincoln Lawyer. Brian Koppelman and David Levien wrote the screenplay and also produced. Justin Timberlake plays Richie, Ben Affleck plays Block, and Gemma Arterton and Anthony Mackie appear as Rebecca Shafran and Shavers. Fifty cast members and sixty-eight crew members are credited.

Made for about 30 million dollars, the film took roughly 63 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from around 67,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 5.6 from about 1,340 votes. A critics' rating of 4.1 out of 10 from 118 reviews places it below even those modest audience scores, suggesting a cool reception on both sides.
