Dave and Clarice Johnson have been married for years, but the distance between them has grown as their ideas about success, happiness and love have pulled them apart. When a car accident leaves Clarice temporarily unable to walk and threatens the career she has worked for, the strain on the marriage becomes harder to ignore. Clarice's mother blames Dave for what happened, while Dave finds himself drawn to Julie Sawyer, a single mother whose teenage son he coaches, and Clarice begins to develop feelings for the man overseeing her physical therapy. The couple must decide whether to end their marriage or work to repair it. The film is based on a novel by T.D. Jakes.
Bill Duke directed the film, the fourth feature in the directing career that also includes Deep Cover, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and Hoodlum. Brian Bird wrote the screenplay, and Duke produced with T.D. Jakes and Aaron Norris. Morris Chestnut and Taraji P. Henson lead the cast as Dave and Clarice, with Maeve Quinlan, Kevin Hart, Jenifer Lewis and Eddie Cibrian in supporting roles.
Made for a modest 5 million dollars, the film took in about 11 million dollars worldwide during its 2009 release. On IMDb it holds a 6.1 rating from roughly 3,500 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.3 from a much smaller number of votes.
