A Good Woman

Stella Erlynne, an American woman with a past she would rather leave behind, arrives on Italy's Amalfi coast hoping to secure a wealthy new husband among the vacationing aristocracy. Her arrival causes a stir, and when she learns that the newly married Robert Windermere is also in the area, she arranges what looks like a chance meeting. Robert's wife Meg grows suspicious as her husband's attentions to Mrs Erlynne become the subject of gossip, while Meg herself draws the interest of Lord Darlington. The film adapts Oscar Wilde's play Lady Windermere's Fan, moving the story to the 1930s.

Mike Barker directed from a screenplay by Howard Himelstein. Helen Hunt plays the title character, with Scarlett Johansson as Meg Windermere, Tom Wilkinson as Tuppy, Stephen Campbell Moore as Lord Darlington and Mark Umbers as Robert Windermere. A Good Woman was Barker's first feature in this series of films, before Butterfly on a Wheel in 2007 and Luckiest Girl Alive in 2022. The international production involved British, Spanish, Italian, Luxembourg and American companies.

On IMDb, the film holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 15,000 votes, and on TMDB it scores 6.3 from roughly 192 votes. A critics' rating of 5.4 from 81 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores. Its worldwide box office of about 7 million dollars was modest relative to a multi-country production.
