OSS 117: Lost in Rio

OSS 117: Lost in Rio follows French secret agent Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath, code-named OSS 117, on a 1967 mission to Brazil. A former Nazi officer, Von Zimmel, has gone into hiding in South America with a compromising microfilm listing French collaborators and is threatening to sell it. Hubert is sent to handle the exchange, but he is paired with Dolorès, a lieutenant-colonel from the Israeli intelligence service Mossad, and he soon becomes caught up in a larger international intrigue involving rival spies. The film is a comedy built around Hubert's outdated attitudes and his habit of missing what is actually going on around him.

The film is a sequel to OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies, released three years earlier. Michel Hazanavicius directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Jean-François Halin, and the cast is led by Jean Dujardin as Hubert, alongside Louise Monot as Dolorès, Alex Lutz, Reem Kherici, Rüdiger Vogler as Von Zimmel and Pierre Bellemare as Armand Lesignac.

OSS 117: Lost in Rio sits second among the eight titles Hazanavicius has directed, before The Artist and Final Cut. The production had a budget of 27 million dollars and took 22 million dollars worldwide, so it did not recoup its costs at the box office. Audience scores are moderate but positive: it holds 6.8 out of 10 on IMDb from 18,000 votes and 7.1 out of 10 on TMDB from 1,561 votes. The film critics' rating of 6.2 out of 10 from 53 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores.
