Short description
The Holiday follows two women on opposite sides of the Atlantic who are unhappy in love and decide to trade houses for the Christmas holidays. Iris, who writes a wedding column for a London newspaper, lives in a cottage in the English countryside and has feelings for a man who is involved with someone else. Amanda runs a successful advertising agency in Southern California that produces film trailers, and she has just discovered that her partner has been unfaithful. The two strangers find each other online through a home-swap website and agree to spend two weeks in each other's homes. Iris heads for the California sun, while Amanda arrives in a snow-covered English village. Each meets a local man during the stay, and both must weigh what the arrangement means once the holidays end.
Nancy Meyers wrote, directed and produced the film, her fourth feature as director after The Parent Trap, What Women Want and Something's Gotta Give. Cameron Diaz plays Amanda and Kate Winslet plays Iris, with Jude Law as Graham, Jack Black as Miles, Eli Wallach as Arthur and Edward Burns as Ethan. The production had a budget of 85 million USD and took in about 205 million USD worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from roughly 366,000 votes, and on TMDB it scores 7.1 out of 10 from around 5,755 votes. A critics' rating of 5.9 out of 10 from 162 reviews sits below both audience scores.
