A Single Shot

A Single Shot follows John Moon, a hunter living in a rural area, whose life unravels after a fatal accident while he is out hunting. In the woods, a shot goes astray and kills a young woman. When he tries to conceal the body, he finds a large amount of cash, and that discovery draws the attention of dangerous criminals determined to recover their money. The pursuer becomes the pursued, and the tense situation threatens those close to him.

The crime thriller was directed by David M. Rosenthal, working from a screenplay by Matthew F. Jones. It is the earliest of the four features Rosenthal directed in the facts, followed by The Perfect Guy, How It Ends and No Limit. Sam Rockwell plays John Moon, heading a cast that includes William H. Macy, Jeffrey Wright, Kelly Reilly, Ted Levine and Jason Isaacs. It is a co-production between the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.

A Single Shot runs 116 minutes and was released in September 2013. Its ratings are modest and consistent across platforms, sitting at 5.7 out of 10 on IMDb based on around 12,000 votes and the same score on TMDB from a much smaller pool of 274 votes. The larger IMDb sample and the matching TMDB figure suggest a mixed but settled reception rather than a sharply divided one.
