Nineteen-year-old Adam would rather spend his days smoking and playing video games, but his mother's wealthy new boyfriend Peter is not a man to refuse. After damaging Peter's car, Adam is ordered to make himself useful: he is to drive a visiting associate around for the day. The passenger turns out to be Roy, a professional killer with business to conduct and little knowledge of the area. What begins as a simple errand becomes a twenty-four-hour descent into violence, and when a young woman named Carly witnesses something she should not have, Roy's plans and Adam's involvement both go badly wrong.
The Liability is a British crime comedy-thriller directed by Craig Viveiros, following his 2011 debut Ghosted, from a screenplay by John Wrathall. Tim Roth plays Roy and Jack O'Connell plays Adam, with Talulah Riley, Kierston Wareing, Peter Mullan and Christopher Hatherall in supporting roles. Produced by Rupert Jermyn and Richard Johns for Starchild Pictures and Corona Pictures on a budget of about two million dollars, it runs eighty-six minutes.
The film drew mixed notices. Critics rated it 5.4 out of 10 across eighteen reviews, while audiences gave it 5.9 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 9,700 votes and 5.6 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller sample of 224.
