Forces of Nature

Ben Holmes is a meticulous New York writer who needs to reach Savannah, Georgia, in time for his wedding to his longtime girlfriend Bridget. His carefully planned trip collapses when his flight fails to take off and a hurricane closes in, grounding every later departure. Left with no other way south, he shares a car with Sarah, an impulsive and eccentric woman he has just met, and the two set off together. The journey turns into a long chain of mishaps and bad weather that keeps pushing the wedding further out of reach, while Ben begins to question the life waiting for him.

Bronwen Hughes directed the film, her second feature after Harriet the Spy and before Stander. Marc Lawrence wrote the screenplay, and Ian Bryce, Susan Arnold and Donna Roth produced it for DreamWorks Pictures. Sandra Bullock plays Sarah opposite Ben Affleck as Ben, with Maura Tierney as Bridget, Steve Zahn as Alan, Blythe Danner as Virginia and Ronny Cox as Hadley. It runs 105 minutes.

Released in March 1999, the comedy cost about 75 million dollars and took roughly 94 million worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 5.5 out of 10 from around 37,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.5 from over 600 votes, while critics rated it 5.8 from 66 reviews, slightly above the audience scores.
