Hatchet III

Hatchet III continues the story of Victor Crowley, the vengeful figure haunting the swamps of Louisiana. A search and recovery team is sent into the marsh to collect the remains of Crowley, while Marybeth Dunstan, who has survived earlier encounters with him, looks for a way to break the voodoo curse that has kept him terrorising Honey Island Swamp for decades. Her efforts to clear her name and end the killings lead her to a theory about Crowley's father.

The film is directed by B. J. McDonnell, his first feature, made before Studio 666. Adam Green wrote the screenplay and Sarah Elbert produced it for ArieScope Pictures and Dark Sky Films. Danielle Harris returns as Marybeth, with Kane Hodder as Crowley, Zach Galligan as Sheriff Fowler, Caroline Williams as Amanda, and Derek Mears and Rileah Vanderbilt among the cast of twenty-six credited performers. Made on a budget of one million dollars, it is a low-cost production.

Hatchet III runs eighty-one minutes and mixes horror with action, comedy and thriller elements. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.6 from around twelve thousand votes, and on TMDB a rating of 5.7 from fewer than four hundred votes. A critics' score of 4.9 from twenty-two reviews puts it close to the audience ratings, with neither group judging it favourably.
