Short description

- The film is based on the novel of the same name by Laurence Block.
- Previously, director DJ Caruso was involved with the project.
- Initially, Joe Carnahan was slated to direct the film, and Harrison Ford was attached to star.
- Ruth Wilson was cast as Joe Darkin (a male character in the book), and the plot involved her being Liam Neeson's partner. However, the director ultimately decided that Neeson's character should be a loner, and all scenes featuring Wilson were cut.
- Michael Iluma was considered for the role of TJ.
- Filming began on March 3, 2013, in New York.
- This is the second on-screen appearance of the character Matt Scudder. He was first played by Jeff Bridges in the film “8 Million Ways to Die” (1986).
