The Twins Effect

The Twins Effect is a 2003 Hong Kong action comedy with horror elements. It centres on Reeve, a vampire hunter in Hong Kong who leads a team equipped with a serum made from vampire blood that gives them the strength to fight their enemies on equal terms; if the antidote is not taken in time, the hunter risks becoming what he hunts. Reeve's conflict with an ambitious antagonist who seeks a vampire prince's blood and an ancient vampire bible in order to bring about an age of darkness drives the plot. At the same time, his sister Helen becomes involved with the prince, and Reeve gains an unexpected ally in a martially skilled ambulance driver.

Dante Lam directed the film, which was released in March 2003. It sits in his filmography between Option Zero and a segment of 1:99 Shorts, and among the titles credited to him it is one of his earlier features. The screenplay is by Chan Hing-Kai and Jack Ng Wai-Lun. The cast includes Edison Chen, Charlene Choi, Gillian Chung, Ekin Cheng, Jackie Chan and Karen Mok, with 34 credited performers in total.

The film grossed about 4 million US dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.5 from roughly 5,600 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from some 192 votes. The larger IMDb sample points to a mixed reaction across a wide audience, whereas the much smaller TMDB group rates it somewhat higher.
