Sex, Party and Lies

Sex, Party and Lies follows a group of young people spending a summer on Spain's southern coast, where days blur into nights of clubbing, drinking and casual encounters. Among them are Nico and Toni, whose friendship is tested as the season pushes them toward adulthood, and Carola, whose breakup with her boyfriend sets off a chain of secrets and deceptions. The characters drift between parties and relationships, experimenting with drugs and sex while struggling to work out who they are to each other. As the summer wears on, the lies they tell themselves and one another grow harder to sustain, and the freedom they chase starts to carry a cost. The film is a comedy-drama about a generation caught between adolescence and adult responsibility.

Alfonso Albacete and David Menkes directed together, working from a screenplay they wrote with Ángeles González-Sinde, and Gerardo Herrero produced. The two directors had previously collaborated on Not Love, Just Frenzy in 1996; this 2009 release sits between that debut and their later solo projects, with Albacete going on to make Just a Little Chemistry and My Father's Mexican Wedding, and Menkes For a Handful of Kisses. The cast is led by Mario Casas, Ana de Armas, Yon González, Hugo Silva, Ana Polvorosa and Alejo Sauras, with 53 credited performers in all.

The film took about 6 million dollars worldwide. Audience response was poor: it holds a 3.9 rating on IMDb from roughly 2,800 votes and a 4.6 on TMDB, whose voter pool is much smaller.
