Odd Thomas

Odd Thomas is a short-order cook in a small town in the California desert who can see the dead. Ghosts come to him for help, and he tries to resolve what kept them from resting, sometimes passing what he learns to the local police chief. He also sees bodachs, shadowy creatures invisible to other people that gather where death and suffering are coming. When a stranger arrives in town surrounded by an unusual number of these creatures, Odd sets out to learn what the man is planning and to prevent it, with help from his girlfriend Stormy and a small circle of friends who know his secret. The film is based on Dean Koontz's novel.

Stephen Sommers directed and wrote the screenplay, and produced it with John Baldecchi and Howard Kaplan. It is the eighth film he directed, following G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and it sits apart from the large adventure productions he was known for. Anton Yelchin plays Odd, with Addison Timlin as Stormy, Willem Dafoe as Wyatt Porter, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Nico Tortorella and Patton Oswalt among the cast. Made for about 27 million dollars, it drew modest audience scores: on IMDb it holds 6.8/10 from around 62,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.9/10 from roughly 1,500 votes. A critics' rating of 5.3/10 from 46 reviews is lower than both audience scores, a gap suggesting viewers responded to it more warmly than reviewers did.
