Short description
Star Wars: The Last Jedi continues the story of Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron as the Resistance struggles against the growing power of the First Order. Rey has traveled to the remote planet Ahch-To to find Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi, and persuade him to return and help the fight. Luke, wary of the strength of her abilities, reluctantly begins to teach her about the Force. Meanwhile, General Leia Organa leads the Resistance as it faces a devastating assault, and Kylo Ren, now fully committed to the dark side, pursues his own ambitions within the First Order. The film is set in the Star Wars saga, following the events of The Force Awakens, and features the return of original cast members alongside the newer generation.
Rian Johnson directed and wrote the film, which came after his earlier features Brick, The Brothers Bloom and Looper. The cast includes Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn and Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron. Kathleen Kennedy, Ram Bergman and Leifur B. Dagfinnsson produced the film for Lucasfilm Ltd. It runs 152 minutes.
The film was released in December 2017 and became a major commercial success, earning 1.33 billion dollars worldwide against a budget of 317 million dollars. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.8 from around 715,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a 6.7 from about 16,700 votes. A critics' rating of 8.1 from 483 reviews is noticeably higher than the audience scores.

- In July 2015, it was announced that Benicio Del Toro would play the villain in the film. The actor later confirmed his involvement in the project. In "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace," Del Toro was cast as Darth Maul, but refused to film when George Lucas cut almost all of the character's lines from the script.
- The computer model of Supreme Leader Snoke was reworked for this film after "The Force Awakens," as, unlike the previous installment, the character appears in the flesh, and director Rian Johnson felt that Andy Serkis' voice was too powerful for the frail old man Snoke appears to be as a hologram. Michael Fassbender, Steven Berkoff, and Ben Kingsley's character from "Sexy Beast" served as prototypes for the antagonist's new physical form.
