You, Me and Dupree

Newly married Carl and Molly Peterson have barely settled into their life together when Carl's best friend, Randolph Dupree, moves in. Dupree, who stood as best man at their wedding, lost his job after taking time off for the ceremony and now has no income, no car and nowhere to go. The couple take him in for what is meant to be a short stay, but Dupree is careless and chaotic, and his presence stretches on far longer than either of them expected. As he grows closer to Molly, Carl becomes increasingly frustrated and starts looking for a way to get his friend out of the house.

Anthony and Joe Russo directed the film, their second feature after Welcome to Collinwood, well before their later work on the Captain America and Avengers films. Michael LeSieur wrote the screenplay, and Owen Wilson, who also produced, plays Dupree opposite Kate Hudson as Molly and Matt Dillon as Carl. Michael Douglas, Seth Rogen and Amanda Detmer appear in supporting roles. The production cost 54 million dollars and took in about 131 million worldwide, a solid return. On IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from around 87,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 5.6, from roughly 1,480 votes, showing broad agreement between the two audiences.
