Garage

Garage is an Irish comedy-drama about Josie, a good-natured man with a learning disability who has spent his adult life looking after a rundown petrol station on the edge of a small town. Lonely and the butt of local jokes, he remains cheerful and settled in his routine, though the station itself may close at any time. His life shifts when David, the teenage son of his boss's girlfriend, comes to work alongside him. Josie begins spending time with David and his friends, buying them beer, and the new company lifts his spirits. His trusting nature, however, leaves him exposed to risks he does not recognise.

The film was directed by Lenny Abrahamson from a screenplay by Mark O'Halloran, and produced by Ed Guiney. It was Abrahamson's first feature, arriving before Frank, Room and The Little Stranger. Pat Shortt leads the cast as Josie, with Conor Ryan as David, John Keogh as Mr. Gallagher, Anne-Marie Duff as Carmel, George Costigan as Dan and Anne Byrne as Vivienne. Made primarily in Ireland and the United Kingdom, it runs 85 minutes.

Garage is rated 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 3,200 votes, while on TMDB it holds 6.6 out of 10 from a much smaller group of 48 ratings, indicating a modest but appreciative audience response.
