Blood Ties

Blood Ties is a crime drama set in New York in 1974. Chris has spent years in prison for his part in a killing, and his younger brother Frank, a police officer with a promising career, is waiting for him outside the gates. The two have long been divided, by the paths they chose and by old rivalry, and Frank is reluctant to get involved again. He gives Chris a chance anyway, arranging a place to stay and a job and helping him rebuild ties with his children and his ex-wife Monica. Chris also meets Natalie, who seems to offer the possibility of a different life. He is drawn back to crime regardless, putting Frank in the position of investigating his own brother.

Guillaume Canet directed and co-wrote the film with James Gray. It was Canet's third feature as director, following Tell No One and Little White Lies, and it is a remake of the French film Liens de sang. Clive Owen plays Chris and Billy Crudup plays Frank, with Marion Cotillard, Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldaña and Matthias Schoenaerts in supporting roles. The production had a budget of 26 million USD and returned about 2 million USD worldwide.

On IMDb the film holds 6.5 out of 10 from around 22,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.1 out of 10 from roughly 500 votes. A critics' rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 54 reviews places it below both audience scores.
