The Big Bus

The Big Bus is a 1976 comedy about the maiden voyage of a nuclear-powered bus, a 75-ton, 32-wheeled vehicle designed to travel non-stop from New York to Denver. Its inventor and his daughter, who oversaw the project, present it to the press before the trip begins, but a pair of brothers working on behalf of the oil industry scheme to bring the bus into disrepute. Their sabotage is only the first of several misfortunes that beset the journey, which the driver, a man with a dubious reputation, and his passengers must survive. Among those aboard are a priest, an actress, the bus's creator and a co-driver prone to fainting.

James Frawley directed the film, which followed his 1973 feature Kid Blue and preceded The Muppet Movie, Wishman and later titles in his filmography. Lawrence J. Cohen and Fred Freeman wrote the screenplay and produced. Joseph Bologna plays Dan Torrance, with Stockard Channing as Kitty Baxter, John Beck, René Auberjonois, Ned Beatty and Bob Dishy among a credited cast of 56.

The film runs 88 minutes and was released by Paramount in June 1976. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.7 from around 4,000 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 5.3 from 116 votes.
