Cuban Fury follows Bruce Garrett, a man whose youthful talent for salsa dancing was derailed in his teens and who has settled into a quiet, self-conscious adult life as an engineer. When Julia, his new American boss, turns out to share his old passion for the dance, Bruce sees a chance to reconnect with the person he once was. Standing in his way is Drew, a smug colleague who also pursues Julia and misses no opportunity to belittle Bruce. Encouraged by his sister Sam and his former mentor Ron Parfitt, Bruce sets out to rediscover his confidence on the dance floor.
James Griffiths directs from a screenplay by Jon Brown, with Nira Park and James Biddle producing. The cast is led by Nick Frost as Bruce, alongside Rashida Jones as Julia, Chris O'Dowd as Drew, Olivia Colman as Sam, Kayvan Novak as Bejan and Ian McShane as Ron Parfitt, with 22 credited cast members in total. Griffiths's feature credits, in chronological order, are this film and The Ballad of Wallis Island.
Released in February 2014 and running 98 minutes, the British-French production pairs comedy with romance. On IMDb it holds a 6.1 rating from around 350 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 5.5 from 96 reviews, showing audiences responding a little more warmly than reviewers.
