Short description

Addicted to Love is a 1997 American romantic comedy about Sam, an astronomer whose girlfriend Linda ends their relationship after moving to New York, where she has fallen for Anton, a Frenchman who runs a restaurant. Sam travels to the city and installs himself in an abandoned building across from Linda and Anton's apartment, using his astronomical equipment to watch the couple and wait for the affair to collapse. He is joined there by Maggie, Anton's former fiancée, who has her own reasons for wanting to disrupt the relationship. The two initially clash over their plans, though their shared situation gradually draws them closer.

Griffin Dunne directed the film, his first feature behind the camera, ahead of Practical Magic, Fierce People, The Accidental Husband and Movie 43. Robert Gordon wrote the screenplay, and Jeffrey Silver and Robert F. Newmyer produced. Matthew Broderick plays Sam opposite Meg Ryan as Maggie, with Kelly Preston as Linda, Tchéky Karyo as Anton and Maureen Stapleton as Nana among a credited cast of 28.

Released on May 23, 1997, the film runs 100 minutes and took in roughly 35 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.1/10 from about 27,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2/10 from 457 votes. A critics' rating of 5.5/10 from 32 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores.
