Shrink is a 2009 American comedy-drama about Henry Carter, a Los Angeles psychiatrist whose celebrity clients rely on his advice while his own life comes apart. After a personal tragedy, he withdraws into heavy marijuana use, stops taking care of his appearance, and loses confidence in his ability to help the people who come to him. Among his patients are a paranoid producer, an actress and an aspiring screenwriter, while an encounter with a rebellious teenage girl pushes him to look at his situation differently.
The film was directed by Jonas Pate, his third feature after The Grave and Deceiver, and written by Thomas Moffett. Kevin Spacey plays Carter and also produced alongside Dana Brunetti and Michael Burns. The cast includes Mark Webber, Keke Palmer, Saffron Burrows, Jack Huston and Pell James, with 31 credited cast members and 82 credited crew.
Made for a modest 5 million dollars, Shrink opened in July 2009. Its reception was mixed: on IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from around 20,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.2 from 262. A critics' rating of 4.9 out of 10 from 63 reviews places it below both audience scores.
