Gentlemen Broncos

Benjamin Purvis is a home-schooled teenager who writes science fiction stories. When a writers' convention brings him together with Ronald Chevalier, the established fantasy author he admires, Benjamin's best manuscript ends up published under Chevalier's name. Around the same time, a young filmmaker named Lonnie buys the same story to turn it into a low-budget feature. Benjamin, a solitary boy with little talent for the world beyond his mother's house, has to work out what to do about both.

Jared Hess directed and wrote the screenplay with Jerusha Hess, following Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. Michael Angarano plays Benjamin, Jemaine Clement plays Chevalier, and Sam Rockwell appears as Bronco and Brutus, the hero of Benjamin's story. Jennifer Coolidge, Halley Feiffer and Mike White round out the cast; White also produced alongside John J. Kelly. The film runs 89 minutes, and the credited cast numbers 29.

Made for about 10 million dollars, Gentlemen Broncos was released on September 30, 2009. It draws a 6.2 rating on IMDb from around 14,000 votes, while TMDB users give it 5.7 from a much smaller group. A critics' rating of 4.1 from 79 reviews places it well below the audience scores on IMDb.
