All About Steve

All About Steve centers on Mary Horowitz, a crossword puzzle constructor for a Sacramento newspaper whose sharp mind and eccentric manner set her apart from those around her. After her parents arrange a blind date with Steve, a cameraman for a news network, Mary becomes convinced they belong together. Steve does not share that view, but Mary sets off across the country to find him wherever his job takes him, appearing at the media events he covers. A self-absorbed reporter who works with Steve eggs her on, and the people she meets during her travels eventually lead her to reconsider what she is really chasing.

The film was directed by Phil Traill, his first feature, followed later by Chalet Girl and Good Burger 2. Kim Barker wrote the screenplay, and Sandra Bullock produced through Fortis Films alongside Mary McLaglen. Bullock plays Mary, with Bradley Cooper as Steve, Thomas Haden Church as Hartman, and supporting turns from Ken Jeong, Katy Mixon and DJ Qualls. Made for a modest budget, it earned roughly two and a half times that amount worldwide, a solid commercial return despite weak audience scores: on IMDb it holds 4.8 from about 46,000 votes, and on TMDB 5 out of 10 from around a thousand.
