Short description
A wealthy, terminally ill businessman named Damian Hale agrees to a costly and secretive medical procedure that promises to extend his life by placing his consciousness into a younger, genetically engineered body. He wakes as the healthy young man Edward and begins a new existence in New Orleans, enjoying the physical freedom his illness had taken from him. Before long, disturbing visions surface, showing him fragments of a life that is not his own. As he investigates where his new body came from, he learns that the organization behind the procedure has no intention of letting its secret out, and that the people who arranged his second chance are prepared to kill to protect it.
The film was directed by Tarsem Singh, whose earlier features include The Cell, The Fall, Immortals and Mirror Mirror, and was written by Àlex Pastor and David Pastor. Ryan Reynolds plays the younger Damian opposite Ben Kingsley as the dying businessman, with Natalie Martinez, Matthew Goode, Michelle Dockery and Melora Hardin in supporting roles. It runs 117 minutes and was made for about 26 million dollars, taking roughly 32 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.5 from about 108,000 votes and on TMDB 6.4 from some 3,400, while the critics' score stands at 4.6 from 142 reviews, so audiences rated it noticeably higher than reviewers did.
