Robot Overlords

Robot Overlords is set in a Britain occupied by robots from another galaxy. The survivors of the invasion are confined to their homes, fitted with electronic implants that let the occupiers know if they step outside; anyone who leaves risks being burned alive. In this controlled world, a group of teenagers, led by Sean Flynn, decides to resist. The robot base, a vast ship known as The Cube, looms over the coast, while patrols and snipers enforce the aliens' rules.

Jon Wright directed and co-wrote the film with Mark Stay, following his earlier features Tormented and Grabbers. The cast includes Callan McAuliffe as Sean, Ben Kingsley as Robin Smythe, Gillian Anderson as Kate, Ella Hunt as Alexandra, Milo Parker as Connor and Geraldine James as Monique, with 23 credited cast members and 144 credited crew. It was produced by Ian Flooks, Steve Milne and Piers Tempest for BFI, Tempo Productions, Northern Ireland Screen and Pinewood Studios, with a budget of 21 million USD.

Released in 2015, the film has an IMDb rating of 4.6 from around 7,900 votes and a TMDB rating of 4.8 from 283 votes, indicating limited audience approval. A critics' rating of 5.7 from 18 reviews sits slightly above those audience scores. Wright's next feature, Unwelcome, followed in 2023.
