The Bag Man

A hired killer named Jack takes what looks like a simple job: collect a bag at a rundown motel far from Pittsburgh and hold onto it until his employer, the crime boss Dragna, comes to pick it up. There is one rule, and it is that Jack must never look inside. The arrangement soon draws unwanted attention, as corrupt police officers, local gangsters and other armed men turn up wanting the bag for themselves. Jack also meets Rivka, a woman hiding out at the motel whose safety becomes tangled up with his own. What began as a straightforward delivery turns into a night of violence that not everyone present will survive.

The Bag Man was released in 2014 and runs 108 minutes. It is a crime drama and thriller directed by David Grovic, who wrote the screenplay with Paul Conway. John Cusack plays Jack, with Rebecca Da Costa as Rivka and Robert De Niro as Dragna, while Crispin Glover, Dominic Purcell and Sticky Fingaz appear in supporting roles.

The film was produced by Red Granite Pictures, TinRes Entertainment and Cinedigm, and is a co-production between the Bahamas and the United States. Reception was weak: on IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 3.6 out of 10 from 46 reviews, while on TMDB it sits at 5.3 out of 10 from 387 votes. Both figures are low, and the audience score is only modestly kinder than the critics' verdict.
