Three museum security guards in Boston have spent years looking after the same collection, and over time each has formed a strong attachment to one particular piece. When the museum's new management arranges to send the works to Denmark to make room for more experimental art, the three men cannot accept losing them. They decide to take the artworks back before the transfer happens, and set about planning a theft.
The comedy stars Morgan Freeman as Charles Peterson, Christopher Walken as Roger Barlow and William H. Macy as George McLendon, with Marcia Gay Harden as Rose Barlow among a credited cast of 22. Peter Hewitt directed the film from a screenplay by Michael LeSieur, and it was produced by Bob Yari, Lori McCreary and Rob Paris. It sits between Hewitt's earlier studio comedies, including Garfield and Zoom, and later television films such as Home Alone: The Holiday Heist, in a career that runs from Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey in 1991.
The Maiden Heist was released in 2009 and runs 91 minutes. It was made for a budget of 20 million US dollars. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.7 out of 10 from 393 votes, which suggests a modest response from viewers rather than a strong one.
