Barely Lethal

Megan is a sixteen-year-old trained from childhood as an international operative, skilled with weapons and hand-to-hand combat. What she wants is an ordinary adolescence, so she fakes her own death during an assignment and enrolls as a transfer student at a suburban high school under the name Megan Walsh. Fitting in turns out to be harder than her missions, and her situation grows more complicated when Victoria Knox, a ruthless criminal figure, tracks her down.

Barely Lethal was released in 2015 and runs 98 minutes. It is an action comedy with adventure and romance elements, directed by Kyle Newman, who had previously made The Hollow and Fanboys and would later direct 1UP; this is the third of the four features he has directed. John D'Arco wrote the screenplay, and Brett Ratner, John Cheng and Sukee Chew produced it for RatPac Entertainment, Highland Film Group and RKO Pictures LLC, with a budget of 15 million dollars. Hailee Steinfeld plays Megan, alongside Sophie Turner as a fellow trainee, Jessica Alba as Knox, Samuel L. Jackson as Hardman, Dove Cameron and Thomas Mann. The film carries a rating of 5.4 out of 10 on IMDb from around 24,000 votes and 5.7 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 1,100 votes, indicating a modest reception from viewers on both platforms.
