Kenau

Set during the late Middle Ages, this historical action film follows the struggle of the protestant Netherlands against Spanish rule. Kenau Simonsdochter Hasselaer is a businesswoman in Haarlem who initially prefers to avoid conflict. However, after her youngest daughter is executed for her religious beliefs, Kenau organizes an army of women to defend her besieged city. While fighting the invaders, she struggles with her own grief and hatred, which creates a strained relationship with her surviving eldest daughter.

Directed by Maarten Treurniet, this project followed his 2005 film Allerzielen. The movie stars Monic Hendrickx in the title role, appearing alongside Barry Atsma, Lisa Smit, Sallie Harmsen, Sophie van Winden, and Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen. It was produced by Fu Works, Mollywood, and I'm Filming Productions as a collaboration between the Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, and the Netherlands Antilles.
