The Forger

Ray Cutter is a former child art prodigy who has followed his family into a life of small-time crime. Serving time for dealing in stolen artworks, he arranges an early release so he can spend what time remains with his seriously ill son. The favour comes at a price: the man who financed his freedom expects repayment, and Ray is drawn into one more job far bigger than the offences that put him behind bars. Working alongside his father, Joseph, he must carry out the scheme while trying to rebuild a relationship with the boy his father raised.

Philip Martin directs this 2014 American crime drama from a screenplay by Richard D'Ovidio, with Al Corley, Eugene Musso and Bart Rosenblatt producing. John Travolta plays Raymond, Christopher Plummer plays Joseph and Tye Sheridan plays Will, with Abigail Spencer, Marcus Thomas and Travis Aaron Wade in supporting roles. It sits fourth among the five features Martin has directed, after Hawking, Einstein and Eddington and Mo, and before Scoop.

Made for about 15 million dollars, the film met a muted response. On IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from roughly 14,000 votes, and on TMDB the same 5.8 from around 400 votes, while the critics' rating stands lower at 4.2 out of 10 from 43 reviews, so professional reviewers judged it more harshly than general audiences did. It runs 95 minutes.
