Short description

Sorority Row follows a group of sorority sisters whose prank involving a faked death goes badly wrong, leaving one of them actually dead. Rather than come forward, the young women hide the body and agree to carry the secret with them. Months later, as graduation approaches, someone who knows what happened begins targeting them and everyone else who shares their secret, turning the cover-up into a fight for survival.

The film is a remake of the 1983 horror title The House on Sorority Row. Stewart Hendler directed it, placing it between his earlier Whisper and the later Max Steel in his filmography, from a screenplay by Josh Stolberg, Mark Rosman and Pete Goldfinger. The cast includes Briana Evigan, Leah Pipes, Rumer Willis, Margo Harshman, Audrina Patridge and Julian Morris, with 36 credited cast members and 135 credited crew.

Released in September 2009, the film runs 101 minutes. Made for about 13 million dollars, it took around 27 million dollars worldwide. Audience response was modest, with a rating of 5.2 from roughly 34,000 votes on IMDb and 5.6 from 622 votes on TMDB. A critics' score of 4.3 from 79 reviews sits below the audience figures.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Lea Pipes originally auditioned and screen-tested for the role of Ellie and only then for Jessica, for which she was ultimately cast.
  • The fictional university in the film is named "Rosman University" in honor of Mark Rosman, the author of the film "On the Greek Street" (1983).
