Sami Benboudaoud, a fourteen-year-old living happily with his friends in a working-class French town, is uprooted from his familiar surroundings when his mother sends him to the wealthy Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine. There he is placed in the care of his aunt Djamila, whom he is meeting for the first time, and her husband Stanislas de Chazelle, the heir of an old French family with strict ideas about good manners. The clash between Sami's background and his new environment drives the comedy, as he tries to find his footing among classmates and relatives whose world is far removed from his own.
Gabriel Julien-Laferrière directed the film, his first feature and the earliest entry in a trilogy of comedies he made around the Neuilly setting, followed by SMS and a later sequel. The screenplay comes from Djamel Bensalah and Philippe and Marc de Chauveron. Samy Seghir plays Sami, with Jérémy Denisty as Charles de Chazelle, Rachida Brakni as Djamila, Denis Podalydès as Stanislas, and Chloé Coulloud and Joséphine Japy in supporting roles. The production involved France 2 Cinéma, TF1 International, Miroir Magique and Vito Films.
Released in France in August 2009, the film runs ninety minutes. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from 954 votes, a middling score that suggests a divided but not dismissive response from viewers.
