Captain America: Civil War follows Steve Rogers as he leads a new team of Avengers. After an international incident causes civilian casualties, political pressure leads to a system of oversight and a governing body that would decide when the team is deployed. This splits the group: Steve opposes being answerable to governments, while Tony Stark supports supervision. The disagreement divides their colleagues between the two men, and the hunt for Steve's old friend Bucky Barnes sharpens the conflict.
The film continues the partnership of directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who had previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier and would go on to direct the two-part Avengers finale. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay, and Kevin Feige produced. Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. lead a large cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie and Don Cheadle, with 106 credited performers and 290 credited crew members.
Released on April 27, 2016, the film runs 147 minutes. Made for 250 million USD, it grossed 1.15 billion USD worldwide. On IMDb, voters rate it 7.8 out of 10 from about 922,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds 7.5 from roughly 24,600 votes. Critics gave it 7.8 from 431 reviews, closely matching the audience scores.

- Marvel Studios initially wanted Robert Downey Jr. to play Tony Stark in this film, but planned for his role to be small and completed in just three weeks. However, Downey wanted a larger role, which would correspondingly increase the actor's fee. Marvel Entertainment's CEO, Ike Perlmutter, was furious with his requests, and as a result, he told the screenwriters to completely remove the character of Tony Stark from the plot. However, just when the issue seemed resolved, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige decided to bring Downey back into the project, as his appearance in the film opens up opportunities to create sequels, new franchises, and various plotline developments within the Marvel Universe.

Such a landing, incidentally, would have resulted in broken legs.
