Basmati Blues

Linda, a gifted young scientist, has spent her time in a corporate laboratory working on a genetically modified strain of rice meant to address hunger. Her employer's chief executive, Gurgon, pulls her out of the lab and sends her to India to sell the rice to local farmers. Linda believes she is bringing them help, but the company's real motives are profit, and the crop threatens the livelihoods of the very people she intends to support. With the help of a local man, Rajit, she begins to understand what her work has set in motion.

Dan Baron directed and co-wrote the film with Jeff Dorchen, and Monique Caulfield produced it. It is a musical romantic comedy set partly in India, with Brie Larson as Linda, Utkarsh Ambudkar as Rajit, Donald Sutherland as Gurgon, Scott Bakula as Eric, Tyne Daly as Evelyn, and Lakshmi Manchu as Sita. Released in 2017, it runs 106 minutes.

The film's reception was weak. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4 out of 10 from around 2,300 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 4 out of 10, from 47 votes. The similar scores on both platforms suggest a broad lack of enthusiasm among viewers rather than a divided response, and the small vote counts point to limited visibility.
