Short description
Wealthy businessman Madec hires Ben, a young guide, to lead a hunting trip into the Mojave Desert. After Madec mistakenly shoots and kills a man, he tries to buy Ben's silence and help in covering up the death. When Ben refuses, Madec turns the desert itself into a weapon, forcing his guide into a struggle for survival across an unforgiving landscape.
Directed by Jean-Baptiste Léonetti, the film followed his 2011 debut, Carré Blanc, and preceded Whatever It Takes. Stephen Susco wrote the screenplay, and Michael Douglas produced and stars as Madec, with Jeremy Irvine as Ben, Hanna Mangan Lawrence as Laina and Ronny Cox as Sheriff Robb.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.6 from around 12,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 from just over 400 votes. A critics' rating stands at 4.9 from 64 reviews, lower than the audience scores, suggesting a mixed response. The film was produced by Furthur Films and runs 95 minutes.

- An employee from the "Mercedes" company was specially brought in from Germany and lived with the film crew for 6 weeks, servicing the vehicle.
- Jeremy Irvine gained muscle mass for the filming. Before this film, he worked with Jonathan Teplitzky on the war drama "Revenge" (2013), where he played a prisoner of war in a Japanese concentration camp during World War II. Before filming with Teplitzky, Irvine lost a significant amount of weight, consuming only a can of fish in brine per day. Therefore, training at the gym before filming "The Survival Game" with Jean-Baptiste Leonetti was not easy for him.
- The film is based on Robb White's novel "Deathwatch" (1972).
- After the shots of Maddocks firing near Ben's body to check if he is dead, a close-up shows Ben's face. Maddocks' departing figure is reflected in his eyes, although he actually shot him in the back of the head, and his reflection should not be visible.
